Madam President,

At the outset, I would like to congratulate Her Excellency Mrs. Egriselda López, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of El Salvador, on assuming the presidency of the Fifth Committee of the 79th Session of the General Assembly. I would also like to congratulate the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Poland, and the Kingdom of Thailand on their appointments as Vice-Chairs. We are confident that your expertise in multilateral diplomacy will greatly contribute to the success of this Session, and to achieve its intended goals.

We would also like to thank the Permanent Representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the State of Qatar, for their valuable efforts in the previous Session. We further welcome the coordinators, who will be playing an essential role in facilitating our discussions on the various agenda items in this Session.

The UAE aligns itself with the statement of Uganda on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, and the statement of Qatar on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council. We would now like to make the following statement in our national capacity.

Madam President,

In a time when the United Nations is facing several obstacles, the work of the Committee on Administrative and Budgetary work remains crucial for the organization to effectively address current threats and challenges. We look forward to discussing priority topics, notably the scale of assessments for the apportionment of the expenses of the United Nations, and peacekeeping operations, as well as the proposed budget for 2025.

Considering the indispensable role of peacekeeping and special political missions in maintaining international peace and security, the UAE believes that it is imperative to allocate the necessary resources to enable these missions to fully and effectively implement their mandates and responsibilities. We also reiterate the importance of transparency, coordination, and issuance of reports in timely manner, which are crucial references for Member States when discussing draft resolutions.

In conclusion, the UAE looks forward to engaging in the constructive discussions of this Session, through collective, coordinated, and flexible effort to reach consensus, which is the foundation of this committee’s work.

Thank you, Madame President.
