Madam President,

I would like to thank Latvia, and the co-organizers, for convening today’s meeting, as well as the briefers for their insights.

The United Arab Emirates remains deeply concerned by the continued human suffering caused by the conflict in Ukraine. After more than four years of conflict, the need to protect civilians and address humanitarian needs is as urgent as ever, and we reiterate our call on all parties to uphold their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law.

Madam President,

At the same time, we have seen that even amid the most difficult circumstances, there remain opportunities to bridge divides and produce tangible humanitarian outcomes.

In this regard, we thank both the Russian Federation and Ukraine for the trust they have placed in the UAE’s mediation efforts, which to date have resulted in 25 exchange operations and the release of 7,791 captives. These exchanges were made possible by the cooperation and goodwill of both the Russian Federation and Ukraine, and we will continue to place our good offices at the service of both parties.

Madam President,

More broadly, the UAE reiterates the importance of inclusive dialogue and sustained political engagement toward a peaceful settlement of the conflict. We welcome and encourage all diplomatic efforts in this regard, and we are convinced that the same spirit of cooperation that has enabled successive prisoner exchanges can help build confidence toward broader de-escalation and, ultimately, a durable peace.

Finally, the UAE will continue to support all serious efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.
