Addressing the critical link between education and employment, U.A.E. Minister of State, Reem Al Hashimi joined a discussion panel at the Clinton Global Initiative education and employment, on Tuesday, 23rd September, in New York.

The panel raised education and employment as two of the world’s foremost concerns and discussed the global significance and challenge of 75 million unemployed young people (13 per cent of the world’s total) and 121 million unemployed adults. She noted that in the Middle East region, the number of unemployed young people can go beyond 25 per cent.

In her capacity as Chairperson for Dubai Cares, Al Hashimi talked about the partnership model used to deliver on its objective of improving access to primary education in developing countries. Partnership with all stakeholders, including host governments, civil society and technical experts, has been catalytic and essential in the delivery of successful Dubai Cares programmes.

She added that although increasing access to education for a greater number of children is essential, it is equally important to ensure the quality and impact of education.

Reflecting the vision of the U.A.E. leadership, Al Hashimi remarked that society itself is empowered through its women and “once a girl starts school, you see a whole series of macroeconomic issues come into play”. Agreeing with fellow panelist Chairman and CEO of CISCO John Chambers, The U.A.E. minister added that technology is a huge enabler and connector in this process.

As Managing Director of Dubai World Expo 2020, Al Hashimi highlighted that its goal, under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, is to provide a number of platforms to train youth, develop skills and improve job readiness.
