Delivered By: Ms. Aysha Al Menhali, First Secretary

Mr. President,

The world today is witnessing an alarming escalation in humanitarian crises, with more than 280 million people facing the risk of acute food insecurity, and where the effects of conflicts on civilian lives and basic infrastructure are worsening. This reality imposes on all of us a double responsibility, not only by providing urgent relief, but also by ensuring that it reaches those who deserve it without obstacles, while protecting those delivering it.

Mr. President,

Based on this understanding, and under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, the UAE announced yesterday a new pledge in the amount of 550 million dollar to support the United Nations’ comprehensive humanitarian response plan for 2026, which aims to provide relief to nearly 135 million people in 23 humanitarian operations around the world.  In this context, my country announced a contribution of $5 million during the high-level pledging event for the Central Emergency Response Fund, to be part of this broader pledge of 550 million.

This support comes as a confirmation of the UAE’s steadfast approach in supporting international efforts to save lives and respond to crises facing the most vulnerable people. It also reflects the vital role my country plays in promoting multilateral humanitarian action, and its close cooperation with UN agencies to ensure that aid reaches those most in need in a timely manner.

Mr. President,

Many countries around the world are still experiencing humanitarian crises that require the international community to continue providing support and assistance. In Gaza, from the very first day of this crisis, the UAE harnessed all its capabilities to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people, through air, sea, and land relief bridges, the establishment of field hospitals, and the coordination of medical evacuation operations.

On the other hand, the UAE maintains its firm commitment to supporting the brotherly Sudanese people in the face of the acute humanitarian crisis, and we emphasize the need to deliver humanitarian aid to those in need without obstacles.

Mr. President,

While we talk about delivering aid, we express our deep concern about the escalating attacks on humanitarian workers and United Nations staff.   Since this action constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, the UAE emphasizes the need to hold those responsible for these attacks accountable.

Mr. President,

The humanitarian challenges we face today require a collective response appropriate with their scale. The UAE affirms that we will continue to work alongside our partners to address the growing humanitarian needs, believing that protecting human beings and preserving their dignity is a shared responsibility that cannot be postponed.

Thank you.
