We would also like to extend our appreciation to the Permanent Representative of El Salvador for their valued efforts during the presidency in the previous session. Equally, we commend the coordinators for their important role in facilitating the discussions of the Committee and supporting its work.
The United Arab Emirates aligns itself with the statement of Iraq on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, and the statement of Kuwait on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Madam President,
As we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, the organization stands at a pivotal juncture that requires a thorough structural review to strengthen its capacity and effectiveness in addressing both current and future challenges. The role of the Fifth Committee is integral to realizing this objective.
In light of the Secretary-General’s “UN 80” initiative, the United Arab Emirates views the deliberations of this session as a unique opportunity to enhance the UN and its mandates concretely and measurably. In this regard, we look forward to discussing agenda items, especially the priority topics at the present time, foremost of which is the proposed programme budget 2026. We also emphasize the need for adequate and sustainable resources to enable peacekeeping operations and special political missions to fulfil their mandates effectively.
In conclusion, the United Arab Emirates reaffirms its commitment to constructive engagement with all delegations to achieve consensual outcomes and to conclude the session’s work in a timely manner, thereby contributing to a more efficient and effective United Nations.
Thank you, Madame President.
