Delivered By: Ms. Ilham Al Ghadiri, Second Secretary

Mr. Chair,

The United Arab Emirates congratulates you on assuming the chairmanship of the Fifth Committee of the eighty-first session of the General Assembly, and wish you every success in guiding the Committee’s work through constructive and consensus-oriented discussions.

We express our appreciation to the Permanent Representative of Hungary for her valuable efforts during the previous session. We also commend the Bureau, coordinators, and Secretariat for their efforts in supporting the Committee’s work.

My delegation aligns itself with the statements delivered by the Republic of Uruguay on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, and with the statement of the Kingdom of Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Additionally, we would like to make the following remarks in our national capacity.

Mr. Chair,

The United Nations is operating in an increasingly complex environment, and its ability to respond effectively requires, among other things, a sustainable financial foundation. In this regard, the work of the Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Matters remains crucial to ensuring that the resources entrusted by Member States translate into tangible results.

The UAE looks forward to engaging constructively on the Committee’s agenda, in particular the proposed programme budget for 2027.

We further underscore the importance of adequate and sustainable resources for peacekeeping operations and special political missions, in line with their respective mandates and responsibilities. Moreover, we attach importance to equitable geographical representation, while upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.

Mr. Chair,

The UAE emphasizes the importance of the Committee’s work in building momentum for the UN80 Initiative, aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of the Organization, while ensuring that the reform process remains guided by the mandates and decisions agreed upon by Member States. We also support innovation and the responsible use of AI to enhance the efficiency of United Nations operations.

In conclusion, we remain committed to working collectively towards outcomes that contribute to the financial health of the United Nations and further strengthen the Organization’s capacity to deliver on its mandates.

Thank you.
