Delivered by: Ms. Myan Tantawy, Political Coordinator
Thank you, Mr. Chair.
The United Arab Emirates extends its sincere appreciation and congratulations to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its excellent chairmanship and steering us through this year’s successful CSW. We are also grateful to the co-facilitators Costa Rica and Cabo Verde, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands for their tireless leadership in guiding us through the informal negotiations. And of course, we thank UN Women for their continued leadership. We congratulate all delegations in the adoption of this declaration.
As we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action this year, we celebrate the significant strides made in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Yet, we cannot ignore that challenges persist, and there is still important work ahead. The adoption of this political declaration serves as both a testament to the international community’s collective commitment, and a powerful tool to protect and promote the rights women and girls and their empowerment everywhere.
The UAE welcome the Political Declaration’s focus on the full, equal and meaningful participation of women in peace and security, the advancement of women’s economic empowerment, and the critical role of education as a tool to drive this agenda forward. We also commend its’ focus on the challenges ahead, and the protection of women and girls online and offline, from all forms of violence, including sexual and gender-based violence and domestic violence. These priorities are essential to achieving our shared objective.
We must preserve the hard-won gains made over the past 30 years. Let us utilise this as renewed momentum to deepen cooperation and drive increased and lasting progress for women and girls everywhere.
Thank you Mr. Chair
